Tuesday Tidbits #2

Cinco De Mayo? - I couldn't quite remember this morning WHY we celebrate it. I knew it had something to do with a war that happened somewhere at sometime. I thought, and I call myself a Mexican American? What would my Father say?
So, after a little Google search and learning it was a dispute with the French I thought what better way to teach my kids about the history than to make them french toast for breakfast? So, I did.

Olvera Street - I should be there today. Walking around in my leather sandals and browsing around the open air markets holding a warm fresh sugar covered Churro in my hand...but I'm not. So, moving on...

The Macro Lens - I want one. After borrowing, renting, and playing around with this lens...I have finally decided I need it. I really wanted to believe I could get by without it and the extra weight in my bag, but it's a must have for those small detail and ring shots, in my opinion.

Feliz Cinco De Mayo!

Mr. Flashy

Diffusers, off camera flash, triggers, and shutter speeds...those were just a few of the topics our guest speaker, Paul Edward, covered at our monthly network meeting this month. It was cool.

We were all so very grateful to him for driving miles and miles to speak among 15 chatting ladies and to endure our trouble shooting questions with Mr. Flashy!

Also, a special THANK YOU to Rowena for opening her studio to our group each month to use, it's perfect!

The Sweet Life Of Chi Chi

I know, I know...is that her real name? People ask us that all the time and the answer is YES. She was given to us by a breeder friend when she was only six months old with a shiny pink dog tag that read - CHI CHI - so, the name stuck and we kept it. Maybe it even had something to do with the fact that she IS a Chihuahua, hmm?

Now, 8 years later, we call her all sorts of nicknames, Chi Chi dog, Cheechers, Cheech, Chaycher La Waycher...you name it and we have probably said it. Robert will often say she has the brain of a tiny bird and therefore claims she doesn't know much. But I say Chi Chi KNOWS alright, knows all about relaxing...like napping, laying in the sun, and snuggling into a blanket with the kids, now that is the sweet life!

Jason And Melissa Engaged

Fireworks. That's what I first noticed about Melissa and Jason over the 4th of July weekend as we ate, swam, and chatted the afternoon away among family and friends. I saw the way he looked at her and the way she smiled at him while we twirled our bright sparklers over and over on the dim sidewalk. I had a good feeling they had met their match.

We started the session near Jason's home in Whittier to include their adorable puppies, then we drove into downtown LA for a walk around Olvera Street and a few surrounding locations.

I'll soon see more fireworks of happiness again this summer as they exchange wedding vows over...yup, you guessed it, 4th of July weekend!

Kelle: Senior Session

Kelle is like the girl next door. She is sweet, talented, and full of life. Pretty much the things I can hope my daughters will aspire to be when they are grown.

While we walked around Laguna Beach to a few different locations, my heart smiled as I watched Kelle's mom admire her daughter and value this last season of her senior year.

The first time I met Kelle, I had the privilege to hear her play her guitar in a local coffee shop book store where we had gathered with some friends. Her music was beautiful and we thought it would be great to include her guitar in some of her pictures.

I really liked how Kelle was relaxed and showed me her fun side, as seen in this photo.

Kelle plans to major in sign language in college so we had some fun with some hand signs!

Kelle, you rock. I wish you the best in your next chapter in life!
